How we protect you/your children
The internet can be a great marketing and promotion tool. But with anything good there's always a downside. The internet is also full of risks and we want to assure you that we understand this reality and we take it seriously. As such, we wanted to take a to moment to communicate with you some our best practices and how we, as a family, can work together to help protect everyone.
1. Followers with no profile photo or zero posts are blocked without question or review.
2. Accounts that have no clear affiliation to our industry are blocked.
3. Accounts that promote polarizing issues in a manner intended to be divisive, promote hate, offensive material, or other content that would be considered unsafe or unfavorable to minors are blocked. This includes accounts with non-family friendly content, even if the account itself may be legitimate.
4. Accounts that are brand new and unestablished and/or appear to be suspect in their true nature or intention are blocked.
5. During waking hours any new followers are reviewed - usually within minutes of them following. If their account seems suspect or questionable we block them. This screening process gets challenging during the overnight hours but we do the best we can to catch up each morning.
6. Every other day we review our followers list for questionable accounts that might have slipped through during overnight hours. We also review photo likes for questionable accounts that may be engaging with our content en-masse but not following us.
7. We closely monitor and moderate all comments. Inappropriate commenters are blocked.
Safety is a community effort!
If you get a follower who seems questionable and they're listed as being a mutual friend with us when you visit their profile please let us know so we can review and block them. Doing so protects the entire community. We take safety seriously and it's not our intent to drive a bunch of junk followers to your accounts. Honestly, if you get a creep on your page and they're NOT following us let us know and we'll preemptively block them.
Having said that, it is the internet and it can be scary place to promote and put yourself out there. We recommend the following best practices:
1. Avoid any personal information that could clearly identify you/your child, their location or other information that could be used to track them down in their profile.
2. Avoid photos showing locations that clearly would indicate where you're located or where you spend your time (a photo at a McDonalds is innocent enough as they're a national chain, but a picture in front of that mom and pop place with their name in the background (that there's only a single location of) may not be a good idea.
3. Review new followers to ensure they have a legit reason to follow you. If you find questionable accounts following you who are listed as following us please let us know.
Thanks everyone!
The Dent Team
